The AK70 is a compact portable music player built around a single Cirrus Logic CS4398 DAC. It decodes 24-bit/192kHz files bit for bit. 32-bit material is downsampled by a sample-rate converter, and DSD64/DSD128 files are converted to PCM for playback. Supported formats include WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF, APE, AAC, MP3, OGG, WMA, DFF and DSF.
Output is through a 3.5mm unbalanced headphone jack and a 2.5mm 4-pole balanced jack, both rated at 2.3Vrms with no load. The player can also send digital audio over USB to portable amplifiers, passing DSD natively through DoP or converting it to PCM. An OTG cable is needed for this and is not supplied. Connected to a computer, it works as a USB DAC up to 24-bit/96kHz.
It has 64GB of built-in memory plus one microSD slot for cards up to 256GB, and a 2,200mAh battery. Wi-Fi supports 802.11 b/g/n, firmware can be updated over the air, and the AK Connect apps are available for phones and tablets. The player can also work with the AK CD-RIPPER accessory, which adds error correction and automatic tagging from the Gracenote database. The body is anodized aluminum in Misty Mint.
