The Mark Levinson Nº585.5 is a fully discrete stereo integrated amplifier rated at 200 W per channel into 8 ohms. It combines a Class A phono stage, an ESS Sabre-based DAC and digital inputs for listeners who want one chassis for vinyl, digital and line sources.

The Nº585.5 is a stereo integrated amplifier built around mirror-imaged, dual-monaural discrete analog circuitry. The Class AB power stage uses a 900VA toroidal transformer with separate secondary windings for each channel and twelve output transistors per channel. Volume is set by discrete R2R ladders with low-noise analog switches. It is rated at 200 W RMS per channel into 8 ohms, with 300–350 W quoted at 4 ohms.
The built-in phono stage is a discrete, op-amp-free design running in Class A. The moving-magnet section has fixed gain and five capacitive loading settings. The moving-coil section offers three gain settings and ten resistive loading settings. An ultrasonic filter deals with rumble and warp. The DAC section is based on an ESS Sabre 32-bit converter and handles PCM up to 192 kHz/32-bit plus DSD natively or as DoP over USB. Clari-Fi processing is included for compressed material.
Inputs include one XLR, three RCA and the phono input, plus AES/EBU, coaxial, optical and USB digital inputs. Stereo RCA pre-outs can run full range or through a switchable 80 Hz second-order crossover for 2.1 systems. SSP mode lets a surround processor control the amplifier, and control ports are Ethernet, RS-232, IR and 12V trigger in/out. A cast aluminum remote is included.
