TLM 50
The TLM 50 is a transformerless studio microphone with an omnidirectional pressure-transducer capsule mounted flush in a sphere, following the design of the classic Neumann M 50. It suits stereo main-microphone recording of instruments and room ambience, for example in concert halls.

The TLM 50 is an omnidirectional studio microphone that revives the capsule concept of the 1950s M 50. The 12 mm titanium diaphragm, only 5 µm thick, sits flush in the surface of a sphere. This gives a gentle rise in frequency response and increased directivity at high frequencies, while the low range behaves like a pressure transducer with linear response down to the lowest frequencies.
The electronics are transformerless, with an impedance converter built into the capsule housing as a hybrid module. At the rear are a -10 dB switch, which lowers the capsule polarizing voltage from 60 V to 23 V, and a high-pass filter for frequencies below 100 Hz. In the LIN position the cutoff is 30 Hz.
The microphone uses a 3-pin XLR output on 48 V phantom power. It comes with a swivel mount cable and an MNV 87 auditorium hanger, so it can hang freely from its own cable, for instance from a concert hall ceiling. It received the 1991 MIX Magazine TEC Award.
