The FR-1xb is a digital accordion with a button keyboard: 62 velocity-sensitive treble buttons and 72 velocity-sensitive bass buttons. A bellows pressure sensor with physical behaviour modelling detects opening and closing, and a resistant regulator wheel allows fine adjustment. Standard bass and Free Bass layouts are available, along with six treble button systems and eight bellows curves.
Sounds are organised in 16 Accordion Sets, four of which are user sets. Alongside the accordion registers there are 16 orchestral sounds, virtual tone wheel organs with slow/fast rotary, reverb and chorus, 16 musette tuning presets, and drum/percussion sounds playable from the bass and chord buttons. Polyphony is 128 voices, and two 8 MB wave expansion areas can hold additional sounds. Eight user programs store settings.
It has two 9 cm speakers in a bass reflex box and can run on eight AA Ni-MH batteries or an AC adaptor. Connections include line outputs, a headphone jack, MIDI OUT, a USB memory port for MP3/Wave playback and data storage, and a USB computer port. A free Set Editor application is available for creating user sets.
