MD-801RmkII

The MD-801RmkII is a 3U rack-mountable MiniDisc recorder aimed at professional theatre and broadcast work, while remaining usable in simpler installations. It records in 74-minute stereo and 148-minute mono modes, uses ATRAC v2 rev 4.5 with 20-bit A/D and D/A converters, and offers full TOC and track editing, including changing track order. Editing can be done from the front panel or from a standard PC keyboard on the rear PS/2 port. A built-in clock allows time-stamped recordings.

Several cueing functions support live production: Auto Cue moves to the first audio in a track, Auto Ready pauses at each track ID, Call returns to the cue point where playback began, and Incremental Play advances to the next track when playback is stopped. Pitch control of ±9.9% and a soft mute that avoids clicks on pause and restart are included. The analog outputs can be split into separate cue and main feeds.

The rear panel carries balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA analog I/O, AES/EBU and coaxial S/PDIF digital I/O, and word clock in and thru. Control is possible through PS/2, RS-232 serial and a parallel port with tally and fader start. The optional RC-8 and RC-801N remotes and the optional BU-801 RAM buffer for instant start are supported.
