The Pick it MC3 is a moving-coil cartridge from Pro-Ject's MC range, designed to match the company's tonearms. It is described as an all-purpose model with a dynamic character suited to pop and rock as well as big orchestral recordings. The generator uses an ARMCO pure iron cross coil with 6N linear crystal copper winding and delivers 0.4 mV output.
The stylus is a Hyper-Spherical type with a 5x250 µm tip radius, carried on a cryogenically treated cantilever, a process said to realign the crystal structure for smoother signal transmission. The body is anodised aluminium in steel blue. Threaded holes in the half-inch mounting pattern allow simple top mounting. Parts are sourced from Japan, and assembly and quality control take place in Europe.
A transparent stylus protector slides on from below. Mounting screws and a hex key are supplied. The recommended tracking force is 2.0 g, within a 1.8–2.2 g range, with a 30-hour break-in period. Because it is a low-output MC design, it needs a phono stage with MC input, loaded at 100–220 Ω.
