The iPhono 2 is a small, bus-powered USB interface that converts the signal from a turntable or other line source into digital audio for a computer. It has a single RCA input with a PH/LN switch, so it accepts either a phono-level turntable or a line-level device such as a tape deck, Minidisc player or DJ mixer. Recording is done at 16-bit resolution, and the same interface can be used to capture a complete DJ set from a mixer.
An input gain dial and a signal/clip LED help set the recording level, and a separate output LED shows playback status. For playback or monitoring, there is an RCA output and a 6.3 mm headphone jack, which carry audio from the computer or the software playthrough signal. A ground screw is provided for the turntable ground wire, and a Kensington slot allows the unit to be secured against theft.
The interface connects to the computer through a mini USB port and is powered from the USB bus. It works as plug-and-play, with no extra drivers needed. Audacity is offered as recording software for Windows and OS X, and a USB cable is included.
