The MKE 440 is an on-camera stereo microphone that uses two short shotgun capsules angled in a patented V configuration. The layout covers a stereo width comparable to the view of common 35 mm lenses and concentrates pickup on the area in front of the camera while reducing sound from the sides.

It has an all-metal body, a stainless steel micro-mesh windscreen that also shields against electromagnetic interference, and a patented elastic shockmount tuned to the weight of the microphone tubes to limit handling noise. A three-position sensitivity switch and a switchable low-cut filter let the user match different cameras and sound levels and reduce wind and structure-borne rumble.

The microphone mounts on a standard camera shoe and connects through a 3.5 mm jack. It runs on two AAA batteries for more than 100 hours and keeps full audio performance when the batteries are low. It is designed for DSLR-type cameras and is not intended for direct use with an iPhone. An optional MZH 440 fur windshield is available as an accessory.
